Book Your COVID-19 Vaccination
Protection from previous vaccinations or infections can decrease over time, and the virus continues to change. The NHS offers further vaccinations to people at greater risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID-19.
The vaccine can reduce your risk of severe symptoms and needing hospital treatment. You may still catch or pass on COVID-19 after vaccination, so it is sensible to follow current advice if you develop symptoms.
For the autumn/winter 2026–27 programme in England, you can receive an NHS COVID-19 vaccination if you:
Some examples of conditions or treatments that may affect your immune system include certain cancers, organ transplants, chemotherapy and medicines that suppress the immune system. The full eligibility criteria are more detailed, so speak to your GP, specialist or pharmacy team if you are unsure. You can also check the NHS COVID-19 vaccine guidance.
Appointments for the autumn/winter 2026–27 COVID-19 vaccination programme begin on 1 October 2026. Eligible patients can book through the NHS online booking service or the NHS App. You do not need to wait for an invitation.
The vaccinator will check your eligibility and ask about your health, previous vaccinations and any allergies. They will explain the vaccine and answer your questions before giving it as an injection, usually in your upper arm.
Most people need one dose during the seasonal programme. A GP or specialist may recommend an additional dose for someone whose immune system is severely weakened.
Yes. If you are eligible for both, the COVID-19 and flu vaccines can be given at the same appointment where both services are available. You can read more about our flu vaccination service or ask our team about appointment availability.
Common side effects include a sore arm, tiredness, a headache, aches or mild flu-like symptoms. These are usually short-lived. Serious side effects are rare. Tell the vaccinator about any previous allergic reaction to a vaccine before your appointment.
If you have COVID-19, a high temperature or feel very unwell, wait until you feel better before being vaccinated. Contact the pharmacy or your booking provider if you need to rearrange your appointment.
If you are eligible, use the NHS COVID-19 vaccination booking service to find an available appointment. You can select a convenient location and check which age groups it accepts.
